CARROLLTON, Texas, Jan. 30, 2010 – For the second year in a row and with two back-to-back sold-out performances, comedian Tim Hawkins thrilled more than 6,000 people at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship Saturday afternoon and evening. His signature twist on familiar classic rock song melodies combined with his own reality-inspired words resonated with the audience. He sang a YouTube and audience favorite parody of "Yesterday," exchanging it with "Chick-fil-a." Another of his other melodies included a parody of Chris Daughtry’s song, "I’m Going Home," replacing the lyrics with "You’re staying home. It’s the place where you belong. You’re grounded for a week." Hawkins’ comedy was interspersed with comments on children, marriage, government and the weather. He said, "I love hearing Weather Whiners. ‘It’s so cold! I don’t remember it ever being so cold.’ ‘I do, it was last year. It’s called winter.’" Warming up the crowds for both events was Houston comedian Bob Smiley, with the evening program warm-up also shared by north Dallas improvisation troupe, Himprov. Proceeds from both performances benefit Bent Tree Student Missions. This year, more than 300 students and 65 volunteers are scheduled for more than 24 student mission journeys in nine different locations in six countries. Bent Tree Bible Fellowship is an interdenominational church located in the north Dallas suburb of Carrollton. It exists to be used by God as He transforms people into disciples of Jesus Christ, here and around the world. What began as a mini-church of 15 families in 1975, expanded several times before their current location on International Parkway in Carrollton in 1997. Bent Tree has continued to grow through LifeGroups and support of missionaries both domestically and a broad international presence. For additional information, visit www.btbf.org. — 30 — |
