WHAT: |
In the post-9-11 world, Iraq and Afghanistan have become the primary fronts in the United States’ War on Terror. At the end of 2009, more than 100,000 U.S. troops were serving in Iraq, and although that number is supposed to decline this year, President Barack Obama has pledged not to make a hasty exit from Iraq. At the same time, he doubled the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan in 2009 and ordered a further increase in the coming year to nearly 100,000 by summer.
