LEADING MEMBER OF THE MEDICAL RELIEF
EFFORT IN HAITI, DR. SCOTT NELSON,
AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS
WHO:
WHAT:

Just hours after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, Dr. Scott Nelson went into action. He and his colleagues at the CURE International hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, organized a five-person emergency response medical team to get into the country as quickly as possible. By that Thursday, it was among the first surgical teams on the ground.

Within a few days, Dr. Nelson and his team had transformed the Haitian Community Hospital from a barely functioning facility into a busy medical center with six ORs staffed by close to 100 volunteer medical personnel.

Dr. Nelson has been working nonstop in Haiti since the earthquake, performing surgeries and coordinating with professionals at other medical facilities. Due to his previous medical work in the country, Dr. Nelson has an intimate knowledge of the physical needs of the Haitian population and has become a respected leader of the medical relief effort in Haiti.

WHY:

As we move on beyond the initial shock of the Haiti earthquake, people will be interested in hearing the stories of those who served in the midst of the relief effort. Dr. Nelson’s story is the perfect story. He has been on the front lines of the Haiti relief effort since the first days after the earthquake. He has a profound love for the Haitian people. He can offer an unrivaled perspective on what it was like to be there and experience the tragedies and triumphs of the medical relief effort in Haiti.
