WHAT: |
Amid Tuesday’s massively destructive earthquake in Haiti, Evangelist Pat Robertson said on Wednesday that the natural disaster was a curse as a result of Haitian’s pact with the devil.
This morning in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas, responded to Robertson’s comments saying, “It is absolute arrogance to try to interpret any of God’s actions as a judgment against this person or that person. … Our duty as Christians is to try to help these people pray for these people and to help them."
Dr. Jeffress views this Haitian crisis from a biblical perspective, stating:
- God is a loving God;
- God is always a loving God, who wants to reconcile people to Himself, as the Bible teaches;
- Because God is sovereign, nothing happens without His permission or under His control; and
- People ask, “Where is God when things like this happen?” Dr. Jeffress would say the same place He was 2,000 years ago when His Son died; specific to this tragedy, he is in the love and compassion expressed by countless volunteers and organizations being organized in relief to assist those in need.
