RIVALS SAM BRADFORD,
COLT MCCOY PROUD OF BEING SECOND:
Oklahoma, Texas Quarterbacks Join Dallas-based I am Second Movement
DALLAS, Oct. 13, 2009 – Two of the biggest stars in college football, quarterbacks Colt McCoy of the University of Texas and Sam Bradford of the University of Oklahoma, have become the latest celebrities to share their personal stories of faith as part of the Dallas-based I am Second campaign.
The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will play their annual game, deemed the Red River Rivalry, at 11 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Surrounding this year’s Texas and Oklahoma football game, the I am Second movement has launched a special Web site, www.whoissecond.com, that will house McCoy’s and Bradford’s individual video stories of faith, in addition to a joint video. The videos will be posted to the site at 12:01 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
“I have to stay focused and disciplined in my approach to life,” said Bradford, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner as the best player in college football. “The minute I start to think that I’m first and God is second, that’s the minute my life starts to go the wrong way.”
McCoy, one of the favorites for this year’s Heisman, said he doesn’t believe God necessarily cares about wins and losses or worldly standards of success.
“For me, I’m successful in life because I have Jesus Christ living inside me,” McCoy said, adding that God cares about “my faith and what I’m doing to make sure I come to live in heaven with Him someday and who am I bringing with me.”
Coupled with the Who is Second Web site, six billboards featuring McCoy and Bradford have been placed on the major freeways near Fair Park, where the Cotton Bowl is located, and similar ads will play on Dallas-Fort Worth radio and television.
“This is a side of Colt and Sam that most people don’t get to see,” said Nathan Sheets, vice president of partner development for e3 Partners Ministry, Inc., the organization behind I am Second. “Their stories reinforce the fact that we all face challenges in life and that Christ is the source of strength in the game of life.”
The I am Second movement is a multimedia campaign designed to help individuals discover their purpose in life through Christ. Its Web site, www.iamsecond.com, contains videos of the stories of struggle, transformation and hope of celebrities and everyday people.
Other celebrities featured in the I am Second campaign include Texas Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton; former American Idol contestant Jason Castro; heavy metal music artist Brian “Head” Welch; and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Since I am Second launched in December 2008, its Web site has had more than 1 million hits from visitors in some 200 countries.
