Authors, Pastors Use Book Publicity Funds to Give Away
Renovated House to a ‘Disconnected’ Detroit Family

With the highest unemployment rate in the nation, Detroit is home to some of the most disconnected and hopeless people. Pastors and co-authors of “Jesus Loves You … This I Know,” Craig Gross and Jason Harper, are partnering with Citadel of Faith Covenant Church to renovate and give away a house to a local family severely affected by job loss and the economy. The authors seek to reveal that Jesus loves those in need of hope who feel disconnected by the difficult circumstances of life.

To nominate a deserving family to win the house, individuals should go to www.freehousesunday.com, where they can access a nomination form and eligibility information. The winning family will be chosen by the authors based on all entries. The house giveaway – “Jesus Loves the Disconnected” – is the fourth event in a national six-city tour surrounding the book, “Jesus Loves You … This I Know.

Craig Gross is a Las Vegas resident who started The Strip Church in the heart of the city. He is also the founder of Fireproof Ministries and TripleXChurch, a Web network that helps those struggling with pornography or workers in the sex industry. The author of “The Gutter,” “Starving Jesus” and “The Dirty Little Secret,” Gross spends most of his time with unchurched people.

Jason Harper is the founder of The Extra Mile, an organization committed to advocating for better education and health care for inner-city children. He is a published author and the director of community outreach for Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, Calif.

The winning family will be announced at a church service on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. EDT at Citadel of Faith Covenant Church, located at 8801 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202.

A celebration ceremony will be held on Sunday, Oct.11, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the giveaway house, located at 822 Hazelwood St., Detroit, MI 48202. During the ceremony, the winning family will tour their new home, which was originally built in 1908, for the first time.

Gross and Harper’s book, “Jesus Loves You …This I Know” (Baker Books, ISBN: 978-0-8010-1329-4, $17.99) released Sept. 1, 2009 and applies the timeless truth of Jesus’ love to all people, no matter who they are or what they have done.

Coinciding with the book, an unconventional national tour is taking Gross and Harper to a total of six cities around the nation where they connect with groups of people often neglected by the Church.

The tour kicked off on Aug. 30 at Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., for “Jesus Loves the Religious,” and has included stops in Las Vegas on Sept. 30 for “Jesus Loves the Gluttons” and Los Angeles on Oct. 7 for “Jesus Loves Porn Stars.” Following the Detroit stop, the tour will take Gross and Harper to

  • Folsom, Calif. – Jesus Loves the Crook, Oct. 23
Gross and Harper will visit maximum security prison, Folsom State Prison, and teach a chapel service.
  • Atlanta – Jesus Loves the Outcast, Oct. 30-Nov. 1
Gross and Harper will have a booth at the Atlanta Pride Festival to apologize for the way religious people have treated the homosexual community.
