CARROLLTON, Texas, Jan. 22, 2009 – It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. And with a sick economy, words were never more true as people are looking for a reason to smile. The venue for an evening of fun with comedian Tim Hawkins at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship has been sold out. The 3,100-seat Worship Center will be at capacity this Saturday night as north Texans get their giggle on. “We wanted to provide a place for people to get together and enjoy an evening of laughs,” said Dennis Richards, Bent Tree Communications Director. “Tim Hawkins’ brand of humor appeals to all ages.” The Hawkins’ art form was honed primarily in churches, with an audience ranging from little kids to youth groups to adults. He found he had to develop material that would hit a wide age range. “I learned comedy in front of a lot of multi-generational audiences, so I had to find material that would cater to all ages,” Hawkins said. “It’s a thrill to provide a family connection where they can share the experience.” Hawkins will be headlining the evening, which will also include Cleto Rodriguez and HimProv. Rodriguez is one of the fastest-rising comics in Texas. He started his standup comedy career in San Antonio and currently works in venues throughout the nation. HimProv is a family-oriented, Christ-centered improv troupe based in North Dallas. Bent Tree Bible Fellowship is an interdenominational church located in north Dallas. They exist to be used by God as He transforms people into disciples of Jesus Christ, here and around the world. What began as a minichurch of 15 families in 1975, expanded several times before their current location on International Parkway in Carrollton in 1997. Bent Tree has continued to grow through LifeGroup groups and support of missionaries both domestically and a broad international presence. They recently redesigned and enlarged their campus last year, with the addition of FX Live Children’s Theater, a gymnasium that hosts both church and community activities, The Crossing – a community space which houses the baptismal and a coffee bar, and a new worship center designed to support the arts. |
