DALLAS, June 26, 2008 – Avery Johnson, former coach of the Dallas Mavericks, and Steve Farrar, founder of Men’s Leadership Ministries, will join Dr. Tony Evans as the featured speakers at the “No More Excuses! Men’s Conference” on Saturday, July 12 at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church. Church officials are expecting a crowd of 2,000-3,000. The theme of this year’s third annual conference is “When Lame Men Walk,” from Acts 3:7-8. "Just as Peter gave the lame man his hand and helped him up, we are here to give a helping hand to men who need to be encouraged and strengthened in their relationship with Christ," said Dr. Evans, senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and the chaplain of the Mavericks. "This conference experience will motivate, challenge and give men the divine tools that will enable them to fulfill their God-given role as leaders." Nine workshops will be offered on topics such as sexuality, money and family. For the first time this year, workshops will be offered for youth 12 and over – “Saying NO to Beyonce” on overcoming sexual temptations, “Man of the House” for young men with no father at home and “Wild N’ Out … In My Father’s House” for young men at home with their fathers. Anthony Evans Jr., the INO Records artist and Dr. Evans’ oldest son, will be the special musical guest. Dr. Evans’ youngest son, Jonathan, a fullback with the Buffalo Bills, will lead one of the conference workshops. Other workshop leaders include Rev. James R. Womack, Destiny Church in Fort Worth; Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr., Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas; Rev. Curtis Campbell, New Creation Christian Fellowship, San Antonio; Dr. Conway Edwards, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship; Rev. Von Minor, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship; Joe Bailey, Abide in the Word Ministry; James Talley, J.H. Talley and Associates; and Dexter Thomas, Dexter Thomas Financial Services. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. The cost is $30, including lunch. Men can pre-register online at www.ocbfchurch.org or register at the church before or at the event. Men who pre-register online will receive a packet by regular mail containing conference information and a red wristband, which will give them admission to the conference. |
