Public Gets a Chance to Meet Teachers from ‘Telling the Truth’ Radio Show

Bent Tree Bible Fellowship will host two generations of a family ministry during “An Evening with the Briscoes” on April 25.

Pete Briscoe is the senior pastor of Bent Tree. His parents, Stuart and Jill, have been in full-time ministry since 1959. Together, the three teach on “Telling the Truth,” a radio show that can be heard in dozens of U.S. cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago, Detroit, Houston and Seattle, as well as in Europe, Africa and Asia.

“I get to talk with the people from Bent Tree all the time,” Pete Briscoe said. “But my parents and I don’t get much of a chance to interact with listeners to the radio show. That’s what this event – and ministry — is all about. It will be like sitting with us in our living room.”

Telling the Truth can be heard in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on KVTT 91.7 FM at 12:30 p.m. weekdays. KVTT and “Telling the Truth” are co-sponsors of the event at Bent Tree.

Attendees will get a chance to find out what Stuart and Jill are seeing as they minister around the globe, including their latest trip to Indonesia and Malaysia, and what the spread of Islam means for Christians in the United States. Pete will share insights on how Christians ought to engage with this year’s election issues, and everyone will be able to relax with a night of worship, teaching, fellowship and dessert. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public, although a ticket is required. To get a ticket, visit or call 800-889-5388.

Ministry is a way of life in the Briscoe family. Stuart and Jill were born in England, married in 1958, and in 1959 left their careers – his in banking and hers in teaching – to pursue full-time ministry. In 1970, Stuart accepted the role of senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in suburban Milwaukee. Under his leadership, it became the largest church in Wisconsin, with weekly attendance of 7,000.

In 2000, Stuart stepped down as senior pastor, and he and Jill now travel around the world on behalf of Elmbrook, working with pastors, missionaries and church leaders.

Stuart has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than 100 countries. Jill is the author of more than 40 books, serves on the Board of Directors for World Relief and Christianity Today and is Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine for women with a heart for ministry.

Pete grew up in suburban Milwaukee. After graduating from college, he served as Junior High Pastor at Elmbrook Church from 1985-89 before earning his Masters of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill. He has served at Bent Tree, which recently opened a 3,100-seat worship center, since 1992.
