Worldwide Cancer Prayer Day will be observed for the 10th time June 5 when Daniel Kennedy takes a prayer book including tens of thousands of names to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Roughly 1.3 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer each year, and more than 500,000 die. The most recent high-profile case of cancer came this week when it was revealed that Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts has a malignant brain tumor.

Daniel E. Kennedy (no relation to Sen. Kennedy) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Oasis of Hope Cancer Treatment Center and the founder of the Worldwide Cancer Prayer Day. He has co-authored “Fighting Cancer 20 Different Ways” and “Dismantling Cancer” with Dr. Francisco Contreras, a leading oncologist.

Daniel Kennedy started Worldwide Cancer Prayer Day after his father was diagnosed with cancer. Today, participants in the event represent more than 150 countries. Kennedy said he receives prayer requests all year from as far away as Kuwait, South Africa and Hong Kong at www.CancerPrayerDay.org. The petitions are compiled into a book, which he has carried to the prayer spiral at the Crystal Cathedral, the prayer tower at Oral Roberts University and the prayer mountain in Seoul, Korea.
